Blaga Thavard, LL.M. is an attorney at law, founding partner at Thavard & Associates, and a member of the Sofia Bar Association. She also serves as an arbitrator at the International Arbitration Court at the Legal Interaction Alliance.

Blaga is affiliated with Pappas & Associates, a Brussels-based law firm, where she provides legal advice on cross-border matters and participates in professional forums addressing legal and human rights issues.

Blaga provides pre-litigation counsel and conducts negotiations, mediation and litigation before national courts, the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the European Union, and in domestic and international arbitration proceedings. She has been involved in numerous arbitration cases, includes representation before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).

  • Council of Europe Programme on Human Rights – Education for Legal Professionals, March 2024 – Awarded certification upon successful completion of the Council of Europe’s Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals.The course focused on legal standards and practical measures to prevent and address violence against women and domestic violence. It covered key international instruments, including the Istanbul Convention, relevant case law from the European Court of Human Rights, and national implementation practices. The certification reflects advanced training in protecting victims’ rights within the European human rights framework.

  • BREULAW Project – Participant, November 2023
    Took part in the BREULAW Project, focusing on legal cooperation and dialogue between legal professionals in the European Union and the Western Balkans. The project explored judicial reform, rule of law, and alignment with EU legal standards.

    The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on European Lawyers’ Practices. It addressed regulatory trends, ethical obligations, and the practical use of AI tools in legal work, highlighting both the opportunities and risks for practicing lawyers.
  • Council of Europe Programme on Human Rights – Combating Hate Speech, June 2024 – Awarded certification upon successful completion of this specialized course focused on legal standards and practical approaches to combating hate speech within a human rights framework.
  • European Lawyers Foundation & Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) – TRAVAR Project, December 2024
    Preliminary Reference Procedures Before the Court of Justice of the European Union – the preliminary reference mechanism under Article 267 TFEU, offering practical guidance for legal practitioners on how national courts and lawyers can engage with the Court of Justice of the European Union. It covered procedural aspects, recent case law, and the strategic use of preliminary questions in litigation involving EU law.

  • European Lawyers Foundation & Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) – TRAVAR Project, March 2025
    Digitalisation of Judicial Proceedings – electronic case management, virtual hearings, and secure digital communication between courts and legal professionals. The course addressed both legal and practical challenges related to digital access to justice and procedural fairness in an increasingly online legal environment.
